Meet Dinah
Dr. Dinah Marks, a native of Auburn, Alabama, is a dedicated public servant, educator, leader, and the current DeSoto City Council Member for Place 5. She graduated from Beauregard High School in Opelika, Alabama, and earned a Four-Year Academic Scholarship to the university of her choice. She chose Alabama A&M University, where she obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Education with a concentration in English.
After moving to Texas, Dr. Marks furthered her education at Texas A&M University (formerly East Texas State University), earning a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration. Driven to serve as an educational role model for her three daughters, she continued her academic pursuits, ultimately earning a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Dr. Marks served the Dallas Independent School District for 30 years, impacting countless students as a Reading/Language Arts Teacher, Instructional Specialist, Educational Employment Administrator, Assistant Principal, Principal Fellow, and Principal at both the elementary and middle school levels.
Currently, Dr. Marks is a Certified Municipal Officer and an active leader in the National League of Cities, having been elected to serve on two prominent boards: the Women in Municipal Government and the Council on Youth, Education, and Families.
Dr. Marks is an accomplished leader who remains dedicated to serving her community and inspiring the next generation. Her blend of educational expertise, civic leadership, and a deep passion for public service uniquely qualifies her to lead DeSoto into a prosperous future.
